Chery’s export sub-brands OMODA and JAECOO have entered series localization in Almaty. Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan (AMMKZ) rolled out the first about 60 vehicles in September 2026; at the forum the company gave the next volume markers: about 2,000 of these brands by year-end and about 10,000 in 2027.
The technical licence comes from Chery Holding. An Astana Motors site release says a technical licensing agreement was signed in Shanghai on 16 July 2026 by Astana Motors founder Nurlan Smagulov and Chery Holding vice-president Liu Yang. The release states the deal covers transfer of technologies, production documentation, quality standards and manufacturing licences for OMODA and JAECOO in Kazakhstan, with series production and sales planned from August 2026. The first-stage models named are the JAECOO J7 PHEV, JAECOO J5 and the facelifted OMODA C5. It also said a Chinese engineering team arrived at the plant in June to prepare the lines with local staff.
Volumes and investment were recorded by Shyndyk.kz in an interview with Astana Motors CEO Beknur Nesipbayev at the Kazakhstan–China Investment Forum: the first 60 units were already built; OMODA and JAECOO about 2,000 by year-end and about 10,000 the next year; the same plant also assembles Chery, Great Wall Motor and Changan; the plan for Chinese brands is about 60,000 in 2026 and about 100,000 in 2027; headcount is about 2,200. Plant investment is put at about KZT 215 billion: about 40% equity and about 60% debt from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan and the Industrial Development Fund. The plant itself started in September 2025.

Kursiv on 29 September 2026 confirmed the same output markers and that the first Kazakhstan-built OMODA and JAECOO units left AMMKZ in September. An Astana Motors release dated 28 September says locally built JAECOO J5 and J7 PHEV have received vehicle type approval and begun dealer shipments; plant infrastructure was adapted for hybrids, quality control strengthened and staff trained on high-voltage systems. Retail prices are not stated in this article.
For Chinese OEMs and parts suppliers, three public lines can be checked: licence date and starter model list (company site), September first-batch figure and annual markers (forum interview and Kursiv), investment mix and multi-brand plan (same interview). CKD/SKD share, a localization-rate timetable, supplier lists and EAEU export schedules are not disclosed in the published texts. Follow-up is better done against later corporate releases and open type-approval data than against a single reprint.
