China and Kazakhstan's car data differ by 23,000 units: 186,965 passenger cars exported vs 163,800 imported, as Kazakhstan tightens personal imports
Chinese data show 186,965 passenger cars exported to Kazakhstan in 2025 (up 74.3%), while Kazakh statistics record 163,800 imported from China, a gap of about 23,000. Ranking.kz puts the values at $2.9 billion versus $1.4 billion. Analysts say the gap does not measure grey imports; February's 51,500 figure counted all vehicle exports. In September Kazakhstan tightened personal imports: Resolution No. 808 requires a recycling-fee certificate before release (from September 22), and Order No. 474 limits e-passports for personal imports to cars up to five years old (from September 26).

World Bank takes its Middle Corridor report to Astana: Chongqing-Budapest containers take 47-50 days, which could fall to 18-19 by 2040
On 15 October the World Bank presented its Middle Corridor report at the New Silk Way forum in Astana. A Chongqing-Budapest container takes 47-50 days door to door via the corridor and about 45 by sea; with investment and reforms, the fastest route could take 18-19 days by 2040. The bill: at least $25bn for infrastructure and about $30bn of enabling investment, for a 3.3% (about $58bn) lift to nine countries' GDP and some 2 million jobs. With 75% of 16 critical bottlenecks already being tackled, the Bank targets paperwork: a single digital T3 document and a joint rail-shipping operator.

Middle Corridor container transit up 58% to 44,200 TEU in January–August; 419 trains from China, 600 targeted for 2026
Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) says transit on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route reached 44,200 TEU in January–August 2026, up 58% from 28,000 a year earlier. Container trains from China rose 84% to 419 from 228. The route association’s working group discussed targets of 600 trains in 2026 and 800–1,000 in 2027, draft agreements on dedicated vessels, and 2027 tariffs. The often-quoted “about 77,000 TEU in 2025” uses a wider definition and should not be compared directly with KTZ’s figures.
